Adverbio de tiempo (del lat. interim) que significa 'entretanto': "Pero, ínterin, había fundado dos centros de esquí" ( Clarín [Arg.] 24.4.97). Hoy es mucho más frecuente su empleo como sustantivo, normalmente en expresiones como en el ínterin, en ese ínterin, etc.: "Mi madre, en el ínterin, aprovechó para agradecerme la dedicación de que hacía gala" (Guelbenzu Río [Esp. 1981]). Es invariable en plural: los ínterin. Es incorrecta la forma aguda * interín. No debe usarse la forma * ínterim, cuya -m final se explica por influjo del étimo latino.
